We May Have Stolen Someone's Cat...
Last week when we were visiting my parents, a couple of very friendly kittens wandered into their yard. Naturally all of the children were eager to play with them, and surprisingly the kitties didn't run away. They loved the attention and even let my nephew (18 months) pick them up in a strangle hold and didn't fuss. By the end of the evening the kittens were well loved. Grandpa, however, is not a cat lover and may have suggested that the kitties would meet their doom if they were found hanging around his yard in the morning. This propelled all of the kittens' newfound friends into a turmoil of emotional anxiety of what to do with the kittens. My niece managed to convince her parents that she needed the yellow cat and thus it now resides with them. The very sweet white kitten with gray markings and pretty blue eyes was left. Everyone had already left except for my family and my brother's, Spencer, family. His daughters begged, but to no avail. Just as we were getting in the car, I panicked and said that we would take the kitty home planning to find it a nice home with another family. Things don't always work out the way we plan. The next day, the cat had been claimed by Amber, Dallin and David. And named Oliver. I consented and took Amber to the pet store to buy food, cat litter and a box, and a collar. Oliver is now our kitten and everyone is pretty protective of him. The funny thing is, this kitty is so social, totally knew the litter box routine, and wanted to come into the house. I can't decide if someone dropped those kittens off because they didn't want them anymore or they simply went for a long wander and were claimed by us. I don't know. Having a real pet is a new thing for our family. We've had animals, cows, goats, chickens, rabbits, but never a pet. We'll see how it goes.
