April 12, 2022 was David's day to be the last child to receive a mission call. He has been talking about being a missionary since he was a very small boy. After waiting a few weeks for his call to arrive via email, he hoped for a foreign call that would allow him to speak Spanish. I think Heaven Father heard his pleas and he was called to serve in the Mexico, Mexico City West mission. He will start MTC training on July 11th. He has been so excited and nervous, too. Last Sunday, David was asked to speak in stake conference about his feelings about going on a mission. I think the theme of his remarks could be summed up in "It is finally my turn!" He has watched his siblings leave and come home, seeing the transformation that was part of the mission experience. He has always had a testimony of Jesus Christ and truly had a strong desire to serve a mission. It was just a matter of waiting his turn and staying worthy to go. In a few days, he will go to the temple to receive his endowment in the Ogden temple. He is so excited for that, too.
Sometimes being the youngest child is hard. Older siblings, especially brothers, tend to pick on you. You have to stay home when everyone else can drive and date and do cool stuff with their friends. By the time it is your turn to do those things, those older siblings are getting married and doing other things. However, being the youngest allows you, if you are smart and observant, to see what decisions were good and which ones brought pain or anxiety. Being the youngest, you have others to ask for advice or counsel. You have a built in network of people who are excited for you to experience life for yourself and hoping good things for you. I think David is finally getting to reaps some of the benefits of being the youngest child.
I am so proud of him.
